Surviving Your Daughter’s Puberty – How to navigate the turbulent tweenage years and save your sanity.

The onset of puberty can be tricky, challenging, confusing, surprising, and difficult. It’s important keep the lines of communication open, provide your daughter with critical information and maintain your sanity. If you think you can just muddle through here is some food for thought - by the time they are in fourth grade:

  • 4 out of 5 girls have been on a diet
  • Girls have been bombarded with catalog models and unrealistic ideas about how a woman’s body is supposed to look
  • They have poor body image and low self esteem
  • By age 18, 75% of girls have had sexual intercourse and 75% of them have already had an STD.

The truth is, most moms don't know how to deal with the mood swings, body changes or "the talk". It’s hard enough to admit that their baby is growing up. Leaving sex education up to the school is a poor strategy because schools don't give good or adequate info for the kids and what they do give creates shame.

Barbara gives tips to open the conversation, give the info in healthy and helpful ways, and make sure your kid stays safe. She does it with honesty, humor and inspiration.

About Barbara Musser:

Barbara Musser is passionate about changing the hang-ups we have about our sexuality and what it is to be a woman. Growing up and puberty were crazy experiences for her. When her daughter was born, she committed to giving her a different and positive experience. She combined this with 20+ years experience as a facilitator of the Love, Intimacy and Sexuality workshops and created Girls Growing Up. The GGU program is dedicated to health conversations and sexuality so that young women can make informed and healthy decisions, and so that mothers know they’ve done a good job.
